Diana My son and I are loving our new home in Glens Falls. It helped that Rich Smith found the perfect house for us, and Paul Mills, now my neighbor, did a fantastic job renovating it before he sold it to me. I had plenty of time to consider where to move, since it took months to sell my old house in the down market. I did a lot of research and even put together a database system into which I collected data from Sperling's Best Places, Great Schools, and other informational websites to help analyze what various communities had to offer. Glens Falls offers a thriving, charming downtown with unique boutiques, great restaurants, and culture. On a warm Summer night, I can stroll downtown to find people enjoying a glass of wine and a bite to eat out on the sidewalk at several fine restaurants, or enjoying a locally brewed beer with a delicious entree at the Davidson Brothers. There's theater, there's art, (the Hyde Collection), a great wine shop, bookstores, a fantastic new library, a charming vintage boutique (Minky Mink), jazz bar, coffee shop, bakery, farmer's market, you name it. There's a bike trail that goes all the way to Lake George. There's a drive in movie theater, and even a car hop with delicious food, ice cream, and a playground for the kids. Parks are plentiful here in Glens Falls. There are plenty of places to swim, fish, roller blade and bike. There's a lovely paved trail that goes right along the Hudson River in South Glens Falls that leads to one of the beaches. There are groomed, lit, free cross-country ski trails in Crandall Park. There's downhill skiing just five minutes out of town. The YMCA is terrific with their indoor pool, basketball, racquetball, playground, and nursery. There are many beautiful churches in Glens Falls as well. Plus, the Albany airport is within an hour, and AmTrak is right across the river.
Wondering about the graphic on my home page? It's the Grand Central tunnel, taken from the train a few years ago with my own Canon Olympus. I had originally cut out part of the graphic as my background, but my dear friend and colleague Jodie Sleed grabbed it and compressed it, showing me a sharp, new technique. I then played around with it to get it to its present state where I feel it still has the tunnel essence. To get back to it, you can click on the graphic bar above, a derivative of the larger compressed tunnel graphic. Other cool pictures I have taken can be perused, here (not to be used without permission). Larger versions are available. If you've known me for a few years, you may be wondering what happened to my chocolateware and the learning links. Times change. I didn't take anything away that I thought was still up to date or being used, but if you were using something that suddenly vanished, let me know and I'll see what I can do; otherwise, whatever you're looking for, Google it, be discerning about the source, and you'll most likely find an answer. The other day I googled how to change a broken light bulb and was able to successfully change it with a potato, thanks to the results.

Besides pointing to reverse phone lookups, product evaluations, online calendars and other free resources that can be found through Google, my site has always detailed my experience with other companies to help document the frustrations that so many of us encounter when dealing with corporate America. Luckily, I'm only disappointed with corporate America once every two or three years.

To summarize previous enlightenments regarding corporations, Allstate bad. In fact, Allstate has stooped to a new low with me, lately, in trying to deny my claim against Leandra Turner of Granville who pulled out from the Cumberland Farms gas station there right into the side of my car. She was cited by the local police for entering a roadway without yielding. I was doing nothing wrong, just driving by, abiding the speed limit. Leandra, herself, admitted that she pulled into the road without being able to see, yet Allstate is pulling all kinds of stunts from denying that they have the accident report after it's been issued to them twice by the Chief of Police to claiming that Leandra may fight the ticket in court, which is ridiculous suggestion. My insurance company, Amica, is supposed to be pretty good but their default coverage for rentals does not cover as much as Allstate and they would make me pay the deductible up front, so I don't want to go through them for this incident. Other companies in my experience - Verizon - bad. Verizon wireless - okay, I guess. Apple - good. Apple refurbs - not so good. Sears - don't buy Kenmore, and if you buy another brand, arrange for your own delivery so their goonies don't bust up your doorway trying to fit stuff through the door without simply taking the door off the appliance as illustrated in instructions taped to the front of the appliance. (A cave man should've been able to read them.) Sears does have good deals on kid's clothes, though, and they treat their employees who are in the armed services better than many companies.

This journal will eventually share more experiences arranged by subject and timeline. All in due time. Thanks for your interest.
